Does the dog seem lost?

A collar, leash, groomed fur, and healthy appearance are common signs of a lost dog. However, not all dogs may share these characteristics.

Action Steps

Do not chase them, especially if they are biting in the air or drooling extensively. They could transmit rabies, a deadly disease.

Instead...

Not injured, location stable

From a safe distance, identify characteristics of the dog, time, location, and where it is heading. Call your local animal control department. Then, check for posts on:

Possible Case
of Rabies

Report immediately to 911 with the location. Keep a very safe distance.

Immediate
Danger

If the dog is in immediate danger, call 911, especially if it is posing a risk to others (like drivers).
